to World Radio Day
On Monday 13th February, we are celebrating World Radio Day,
recognising the power of radio to inform, educate and entertain
communities around the world.

In Malawi, radio is playing a vital role in food security. In a
country heavily reliant on agriculture, Malawi’s farmers fight a
constant battle to grow enough food for their people. With most
farmers living in remote rural areas, it is difficult for them to
benefit from advances in farming practices. However, radio offers one
way of reaching farmers with farming advice that can benefit the whole
community. In 2009, Cathryn Wood met with radio producers in Malawi
who are helping farmers to produce more food and make more money -
over the airwaves.

I’ve uploaded a radio package that I pulled together about farm radio
in Malawi (featuring Frontline SMS).
