Hi Wood Firers,

I was pretty disappointed when this group fell by the wayside and people stopped posting here. It would be great if we can get it fired up again. There is not much communication between wood firers, and more would be better in my opinion.

Lee, is there much wood firing discussion on Facebook? I have never signed up for it, but am considering doing it to keep in touch with the wood firers. Are you still firing in Craig’s kiln? Thanks for the article on water introduction in kilns.

Craig Edwards, are you still getting these emails? I’ve been wondering what you are up to, and if you still fire regularly.

I’m still making pots and firing the anagram kiln here twice a year, with a group of about a dozen potters and sculptors. We just finished firing #32 at the end of October, and it came out pretty well. We are getting more consistent in our firing practice, using a little less wood as time goes on and stoking a little more efficiently as we get better at reading the firing’s progress. Sales were good this season, in spite of cold weather here in NE California. I’ve had a month off from making pots in the shop, and am just about ready to get back in there and start another cycle.

Do any of you get The Log Book, the little magazine for wood firers? Casey Clark, one of the potters in our clan, got an article published on stoking doors, and there are a couple of pictures of our kiln in the latest issue, #63. If any of you read the article, what did you think of it? What’s your stoking door like?

Well, I hope you are all well and productive. Tell me what’s happening with you!

Best,

Paul Herman
