So Hey Folks,
The beginning of the end of this kiln has begun ...
That's my Juston Beaber impression but I could have cried a little eh.
I hope I calculated the weight of these high heat duty brick with enough margin for error at 8# per brick since some were old Empires and other foundry brick @8.4# and the new unbranded @7.6# with some old medium duty "Standard" thrown in from scavenging at Kalamazoo Wrecking in 1974 for $.50 each. By now I've probably spent $25 each hauling them around but I guess they have sentimental value. Isn't there some old
potters tale about using bricks from older kilns over and over to increase the power of the next kiln while adding new bricks for youthful vigor? Anyway, here's a little more progress with no tears, yet ...
Just to be on the safe side I'm putting only 1200# (150 bricks) in the Aerostar and hauling it a couple of miles for now. When I started unloading they would have been more visible so I set them outside the mowing line in a swail with some Tamarack around them for cover because of the white greenhouse plastic I salvaged from the end of season at Wal*Mart sort of stands out. I've got a green tarp for when I'm done.
Thanks for watching and stay in there eh ...
