Alleluia!!
In the Windows XP Mode - Windows Virtual PC, Transfile Win 200 works! ...
but now, the issue at hand; establishing communications between the
HP200LX and the PC. Trying all of the various communication settings to
establish a connection with the serial device fail; e.g., COM1, COM2,
COM3, COM4 with baud rate settings from 1200 to 57,600. All of the other
settings on the real and virtual machines remain unchanged and are
identical to the settings on other (read older) real machines; i.e., Data
bits: 8, Parity: None, Stop bits: 1, Flow control: None. Both Device
Managers, the one in the Virtual machine and the other in the real
machine, show no conflicts with either of the two COM ports.
Any further thoughts or suggestions will be most certainly welcomed and
very much appreciated.

Though not vigorously tested, of the CMM executables that were
subsequently tested and that had not previously run on the 64-bit Win 7
machine
(
see
earlier
thread), happily, they did run while in Windows XP Mode - Windows
Virtual PC. While this news may be welcome to some CMM users with new
computer systems, much like the finger plugging the hole in the leaking
dike, this solution obviously doesn't fully address larger issues and the
inevitability of old programs that won't run on new systems.
One note of caution, Windows Virtual PC requires processors capable of
hardware-assisted virtualization with AMD-V™, Intel® VT or VIA® VT
turned on in
the BIOS. To find out if your system is suited or not, check out
this detection tool.
