Robert -- "adjust" and "cstuf" are written in an older version of C that is
not compatible with the newer .NET compilers, This is one of the primary
reasons for discussion about a full new version of cmm.

Unfortunately, the best solution (that I am aware of) is to run cmm on a pc
with windows xp (not vista). I'm sure you've run into other software that
exhibits erratic behaviour under vista.

Kurt,
Yes I have, sometimes I have found a driver, some times a *.dll file, other times changing the windows vista registry, ouch.
WinCMM is a great program, I would not like to see it die, I do have XP other machines to work with, however I do not know how much longer they will be around. Hopefully, someone more computer literate than I can re-write the program. I remember using Cadastral Measurement Management on an IBM 33 megahertz machine with DOS 3.1 or something in the late 1980's after a day seminar at Alfred State College with guest speaker Raymond Hintz, from the University of Orono, Maine. Been using it right along since. Ray made a conversion program to read SMI data collector files sometime in the early to mid 90's for which we are still using. Trying to keep up with technology these days is rough and I cannot see it slowing down anytime soon. Good luck to the younger generation.
Anyway, thanks for keeping it going and good hearing from you.

Rob -- there has been quite a bit of talk about revisiting cmm for a full
new version. Maybe we could get lucky and completely bypass "vista" issues
and target "windoze 7". As usual three big hurdles: $, time, and people.

I've worked with cmm since those early days too. As a graduate student at
Umaine under Ray, we developed the windows version -- however, most of the
development went into GMM as the GCDB was determined to be a higher priority
to support the digital cadastral framework known as GCDB. Many things have
changed --> Ray and I both lack a staff of talented grad students that could
work on this, but there is still talk of some hybrid joint venture of sorts
that could result in a new cmm.

Have you experimented with the DOS and command line compatibility
options in Vista? I don't have a Vista install to check or really
know specifically what I am talking about but I see a lot of
discussion of DOS compatibility issues on line. Another option
mentioned is a DOS emulator DOSBOX. Both ADJUST and CSTUF are simple
DOS applications with no extraordinary memory or video
requirements. It looks like it may take some patience to get that to
run, but just another possibility.

I see tips like ".. the only one of any help is Run the program as an
administrator. This is actually very necessary - DOS had a very
direct approach to hardware and knew nothing of user accounts or
security, whereas Vista seems to run on little else.

You could also get radical and run a full install of at least the DOS
CMM and GMM booted off a thumb drive with something like DOS6.22 or
various PD DOS versions.

Jerry,
I'll poke around a little more, but I believe I already have a DOS emulator, the Vista machine has two program directories one "Programs" the other "X86 Programs" which I assume is DOS Format. Most of the DOS programs so far are functioning OK.
Thanks for your input, have a great weekend,

Some people tell me that the programs may run directly under DOS but
perhaps not under wincmm or rhcmm.

Are you running a 64 bit version of Vista by any chance?
