I've started to put some ideas on
http://winecamp.pbwiki.com/WineCampFrance

I'd like to know what people think about:

1. Location:
I propose the Geneva Lake area because:
- I've got some good connections for arranging practical needs, and
I have still organized a wine & solidarity event here (see:
http://www.omidyar.net/group/foodchain/ws/wineandsolidarity/#id2 )
- it's 30 minutes from Geneva where there is a good airport and a
lots of NPOs/NGOs
- it's in a *neutral* French vineyard: it's delicate to choose a
world famous region (Burgundy, Bordeaux or Champagne) without irking
the other one and loosing their support

2. Date:
The best will be end of september or begining of october. Weather can
be still ok for camping in good conditions and it gives enough time for
planing the event.
As said in Barcamp Paris: I'm waiting for the dates that Chris and
other attendees from USA can propose for going further with location,
sponsors etc.

3. Attendees:
- Geeks
People from Silicon Sentier (who hosted BarcampParis) have guaranted
their support: they will come from Paris and help with their networks.
French Barcampers will be strongly solicited... the wine can decide the
last hesitations ;)
If a Barcamp Lausanne is confirmed on the Barcamp Earth date, I will
attend, present Winecamp and bring some swiss campers for Winecamp
(Lausanne is just 30minutes with the boat and I've been studied in
Lausanne a few years ago).
- NPOs/NGOs
I've started to tag with nptechfrance some targeted *technologies
oriented* NPOs. They have some great networks, but they definitely have
a lot to learn from a winecamp. e.g. even with just translating some
TechSoup and Netsquared ressources and teaching them how to use it,
they will save so much time.
I will spread my NPOs network.
I've got some great introductions with the UN refugee agency and ICRC
(red cross). Their HQ are in Geneva and there are definitely a lots to
do for improving their uses of technologies.
I'd like to propose a specific half-day for focusing about French
speaking Africa and their specific needs. What do you think?

I have also lots of ideas concerning fundraising through winecamp, but
it's for another topic about winemakers+sponsors+fundraising ;)

No...no...better dates:

September 22-24th is OK for me. It's not to late for hoping a good
weather and it's gives enough time for organizing the event. I will put
the date on the wiki. I think if you propose this date it's also OK for
Chris? What about you Greg (Beuthin)? I really want to have someone
from NetSquared and Greg as an experimented winecamper is the one!
If needed, I think we could fund some scholarships for airfare with a
special wine selling campaign.

It appears that the winecamp is too hard (lack of time) to organize in
this location for this date...
I propose to keep this date for organizing a winecamp in Burgundy where
I have all the facilities and can easily bring people from Paris
(barcampers and NPOs).
I'm still fan for a bigger winecamp on Geneva lake but it will be
easier with more time and with the feedback of the first
winecampfrance. That could be for spring 2007, something like the
anniversary date of the first winecamp.

Burgundy sounds amazing. Keep it small and simple for the first one...really. Otherwise you'll have no fun. :)

Voice of wisdom :)
Thanks Tara, that's what I needed to read!

Teacher says: repeat 10 times "think small"
Me: think small, think small, think small, think small, think small,
think small, think small, think small, think small, think small

OK, got' it ;)
