I have Dell Recovery drive (used 5 of 10 GB) and was wondering if I should image this partition in case I can't get access to the backup drive.
Is this a good idea - attempt to restore from a DVD
Can you recommend a good free software utility to back up the drive (it will need to compress)

8 years late but might be helpful for others.
It wouldn't be bootable but natively you could right click and then click on Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder and then just copy it onto the DVD.
