Cannot find my Desktop folder

I tried to open that folder and did a search...so many appear and i
had to open each one of them and they dontt show the files that i show
in that folder, which is shown on my Desktop screen. Why does windows
XP have more than one Desktop in the first place? I thought the main
one would be in my C:/ documentand settings/myname/desktop folders?.
So like i said, when i open it up so many other files are shown but
not the ones that are shown on my Desktop screen.
