After doing about a thousand merges this weekend I realized how
important it is to get some of you enlisted in helping with this. Tami
and I just can't do them all. Plus, we're more likely to make merging
mistakes.
Some of you will be in for shocks at how messy your profiles have
become. I apologize in advance. And I say something about sausage
making and all that. :-)
In the description of the Open privacy level
http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Privacy#Open it says that all profiles
from over 300 years ago need to be Open, and Open profiles can be
merged by Supervisors. Two obstacles: 1.) We don't yet enforce the
rule that says these historical profiles need to be Open, and 2.) We
don't really have a Supervisor program yet.
Rather than working on thousands of merges I decided I should be
working on #1 and #2.
I think it's still a good idea to be discussing who will be managing
what profiles. And once that's decided, we can still work on
identifying final WikiTree IDs. And of course, there's plenty else to
do. Then we can come back to mass merging.
I'm thinking we should nominate a leader or coordinator for each user
group. In particular, I think we need someone who can be in charge of
keeping track of who is managing
which profiles and which profiles need managers.
Would any of you be interested? Volunteers? Nominees?
I would nominate Becky, though if I haven't mentioned it before, she
is my cousin.

There's no rush. The last time I checked, everyone on this list is already dead.

That sucks. I set you as the sole manager for Alden-6 so nobody else
can accidentally merge it away. If you want to try to clean things up
there, go for it. If you need more help, I'll be back from RootsTech
next week.
