The Worden-418 profile actually also lists Newtons as parents...?
Does anyone have any solid or reasonable sources? Just flipping
through all of those profiles, I noticed at least 3 different sets of
possible parents, and hardly any sources aside from Ancestry family
trees. Could there be more than one Elinor/Eleanor/Ellen Newton who
went to the colonies? These are very common names, and it may have
been easy for someone to conflate a few of them somewhere down the
line.
If it isn't too much trouble, perhaps it would be best to merge all
the Eleanor Newtons with unknown parents into one profile. Make this
the Eleanor married to Winslow and Adams. Make a note in the bio that
there is disputed parentage and that her maiden name may have been
Worden, with Newton being a married name from an unknown husband. Then
disconnect all the Eleanors with parents from the spouses. Check to
see if any of these other Newton parents actually had a daughter named
Eleanor. If they did, leave the "unmarried" Eleanors connected to the
parents, and make a note in the Bio that she may or may not be the
same Eleanor who married Winslow and Adams. If things become more
clear as to origin and parentage, they can be merged down. It isn't
ideal, but it at least tidies up the things that are known.
(I also wanted to pop in to say that historically, there are plenty of
reasons for an unmarried woman to emigrate by herself, so don't throw
the idea of Newton maiden name out with the bathwater.)
