Hi everyone,
The FT-IR is now usable for transmission mode. The reason why we kept getting spectral quality errors was due to software settings within the experimental parameters that have now been corrected.
In Omnic, there is now only one experimental parameter file in the drop down menu at the top of the Omnic window. You should NOT have to change this file to get good spectra. If you absolutely must change it, go to “Collect” and open “Experiment Setup”. A new window will appear. In this window, click the “Collect” tab, enter a new name and new description for the file (that includes your name, date, and reasons for the change to parameters) and MAKE SURE you “Save As” as a different file. If you overwrite the current experimental parameter file, we eventually end up with the same problems we had last week.
Again, this new file should be fine for everyone’s experiments (including the hot cell). However, if you have to use an older file, they are located at C:\My Documents\omnic\param\old_experiments. Drag this to the previous folder in the tree, open in Omnic, and rename and describe per earlier instructions.
I know this is a long e-mail but if we don’t pay attention to our usage of the experimental parameter files, then the FT-IR will eventually become unusable again. If you have questions, come see me.
