The Refund

Translated into English by Percival Wilde

From the original Hungarian play by Fritz Karinthy

 Adapted & Directed by

Vidyarthi has been a failure in his life. He has been fired from whatever job he has taken up, and is short of money. Frustration sets in and he blames the school education for his failure. Getting a refund for his school fees seems to be the only plausible option in front of him.

The Principal of his school is befuddled by this strange request, and cannot accept Vidyarthi's demand for getting a refund of his school fees.
Both of them agree to a strange proposition - Vidyarthi will appear for a re-examination. If he fails in any subject in the exam, he will get the refund.
The principal falls back to his dependable teachers to bail him out of this situation. The re-examination begins...
Who wins this duel - Vidyarthi or the School (the "system" represented by the Principal and his teachers) ?
What is more important - education or the school's reputation of having a 100% pass record?

Does Vidyarthi pass the exam or does he get The Refund?
