3, Sakina Manzil
In Epoch - A Vintage Theater Festival
3, Sakina Manzil is a 1940s love story staged as a part of Desires Unlimited’s “Epoch – A Vintage Theater Festival”, Delhi’s 1st Vintage Theatre Festival.
The play is set in pre-independence era when the country was fighting for its independence, world was being ravaged by World War II, and the Hindi film Industry was learning to stand on its feet. Amidst all this, in an old apartment building of Bombay, 3 Sakina Manzil, a love story of two silent lovers unfolds. It explores how people despite their crisis of their times, managed to fall in love and sustain it over the years.
The Epoch festival captures two prominent yet classical themes of the month of March – “Spring” and “Idus Martii” (i.e., Ides of March). The Gandhian love story, “3, Sakina Manzil” promises to be refreshing as spring. While, the second play , “Rope”, is a classic murder story that resonates with the touted Ides of March known popularly for assassination of Julius Caesar by Brutus.
