        Dear Western New Democrats,

This friday (the 18th), NDP MP Charly Angus is coming to London and will be hosting two events that everyone is welcome to attend!

             Attawapiskat Student Campaign Lunch Meeting

11:30-1:00pm at Irene Mathyssen's Constituency Office (1700-D Dundas St., London On).  Free Pizza will be available for lunch. Charlie has been travelling around and is inviting local high school, college and university students to talk about his Attawapiskat campaign (fact sheet attached), and get your support and help in pressuring the Minister to back pedal on this.
For 8 years, Attawapiskat children have had no school.  In 2000, the grade school was closed because children were getting sick from a massive diesel spill under the school.  The community has worked hard to get a new school built.  Three federal Indian Affairs Ministers have committed to moving ahead with the project.  In December 2007, however, the new Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl arbitrarily cancelled the proposed school.  The grovernment claims there is no money for First Nation schools for the next five years.
Basically the reality is that there are two standards for education in Canada.  Every non-Native child has guaranteed rights under provincial education standards.  The First Nation Children of Canada have no such rights.  A system of educational apartheid exists in Canada and we must change this appalling double-standard.  So come out on friday for lunch, find out more about the issue and see what you can do to change the system!

Charlie Angus and Mean Tangerine in Performance!

Fri. April 18th., 8:00 pm. at the London Music Club, 470 Colborne Street.  A musical performance by Canada’s only JUNO award winning Member of Parliament. Charlie Angus was also named as the Best Constituency Representative Member of Parliament by Maclean’s Magazine. Tickets are only $20, but are in limited supply so get your ticket today. If you haven’t got your tickets yet you can get them on Friday at the lunch meeting.  For more information please visit the facebook event at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=40702855152
