The West Roxbury Neighborhood Council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday February 26rd at 7:30 PM at the West Roxbury Police Station Community room.
The agenda will include Michael Field of Field and Schultz who will discuss Baker Street Market and Deli applying for a beer and wine license.
Sarah Paritsky from the Better Bus Project will discuss the project and the three proposals that most affect West Roxbury summarized here:
Route 34 & 34E – Dedham – Forest Hills/Walpole
(1) Combine Route 34 and 34E into a single route. (2) Provide new service to Legacy Place. (3) Simplify the Route be reducing number of route variations (4) remove service along Route 1A and to Upland Woods, Xaverian and Old Navy in the Dedham Mall
Route 36 VA Hospital – Forest Hills
(1) More frequent service to VA Hospital (2) remove service to Charles River Loop (3) create a single main route variation to Millennium Park with Late night service to Rivermoor Industrial Park
Route 37 Baker and Vermont – Forest Hills
(1) Reduce service to Corey St. except during school hours (2) shorter wait time for 99% of riders (3) Up to an 11 minute walk for 3 riders to Lasell and LaGrange. (4) 20 riders no longer provided with services beyond Lasell and LaGrange
The Better Bus Project is excited to share 47 cost-neutral proposals to update and modernize 63 existing bus routes. These proposals lay the foundation for a bus network with more frequent, reliable service that provides better connectivity in Greater Boston. We think they will save our bus riders 2,000 hours and result in 8,000 new bus rides each weekday.
Before we can consider adding more resources—more buses, more bus drivers, more bus garages—we have some long-overdue simplification to consider. We are looking to consolidate duplicative routes; improve bus stop spacing; eliminate route variations that exist that don’t make sense anymore—and much more. That way, when we do add to our system, we’ll get much better service per dollar invested. To use a metaphor, we need to lay a better foundation before building a bigger house. These proposals are that foundation.
Visit betterbus.mbta.com to view the proposals, available in multiple languages. The proposals include a description of each proposed change by route number, a map of the change, and the data supporting the change along with the tradeoffs.
Anyone who is unable to attend the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council meeting is welcome to attend one of the other community meetings or to read more at betterbus.mbta.com and provide feedback online at mbta.com/BBPfeedback. The comment period closes on March 13.
