OK i've been talking to my mum, and she thinks that because originally
we wanted to move in on the 1st July and we couldn't it's not
completely our fault that we weren't able to check that all the
appliances were turned off over the summer. Also we haven't been able
to check the reading's on the meters so the landlady should (in theory)
have done this as she knew that none of us were moving in straight
away. If she hasn't checked the meters then the first one of us who
moves in needs to and then we need to contact the water board and
electricity company and tell them that we have just moved in and these
are what the readings were, blah di blah.

Also it would be quite useful to get some sort of inventory of what the
house contains. Bless the vintage lady, but i think for our own
security it would be good to get a list of what items (furniture wise
and things that could be removed) come with the house. Otherwise we
should make a list when we arrive, or take photographs or something. I
really doubt that she'd turn round after we leave and say "You're not
getting your deposit back cos some of my furniture's gone" but who
knows.. it's possible. Would be good to know if we need to get a
hoover/ironing board those sorts of things as well.

So does anyone fancy ringing her?

And i've had another look at internet deals, and Tiscali broadband is
definately the cheapest, for 27.99 a month (which includes our bt line
rental) we can get a 2mb (all the time) connection with a 15gb download
limit. The download limit is a bit of a pain, but it costs a lot more
to get one without that limit. Instead of paying 7.99 on top of that to
get free calls at any time to landlines, we could pay 3.99 and that
would be free evening and weekend calls which personally would be good
enough for me.

Let me know what you think. And if someone wants to ring the landlady
then that would be fantastic...

hey wentworth team, jamie here. i moved all my stuff in in august, and
ive spent a few weeks there. the house is in pretty bad condition, with
there being slugs in the living room, the bathroom being disguisting
and the kitchen not exactly pleasant. the lads who were there before
have had the cheek to leave a note saying that they left all the
internet stuff, and a shitty microwave and they want 100 quid for it!
personally i think we should tell em to fuck off! regarding the
internet, i think we are going to have to get an unlimited package, as
15G will go so quickly and then you get extra charges, so we might as
well pay the little extra, considering how long all of us spend on the
internet! any questions about the house, let me no!!

oh my god that's disgusting. Is it really that bad? If so then maybe we
should insist that christine gets a cleaner in to sort out (at least)
the communal areas - we didn't agree to a disgusting house!!! That
internet deal sounds qutie good - i'm up for that, guess we'd have to
sort out the phone separately but that's cool. I think we should tell
them to fuck off too... a brand new microwave would only cost about
£20-30!

only slight thing is that if we set up the internet ourselves then it's
going to cost approximately £60-70 for a decent router that will work
for a network connecting our 7 pcs.

Have also been thinking about getting a TV licence... i'm assuming that
the house does not come with a TV included so it'll cost £126.50 for a
licence which is £18.07 each for the year. However, you can get a
refund if you don't use it for 3 months, so i suggest we get the
licence on the 1st October and then seeing as term finishes on the 30th
June we should be able to claim back on the 3 months we aren't there.
I'm quite happy to pay for the TV licence online on October 1st and
then everyone can pay me back as and when they have the spare cash.
What with bills and the internet and this it looks like living out of
halls is going to be rather expensive - at least to start off with
anyways :s

Hey guys,
It's me, feathers!! I know i've been silent for a while with regards to the
house but i've been travelling the world as usual. I think Anna's right to
call vintage lady and try and get all this house stuff sorted before we all
move in. That's so sweet of you to offer to clean the house Anna, but we
really should ask vintage lady if she can send someone round. Anyways when
we all get there we should set up a cleaning rota to make sure nobody has to
do it any more than anyone else (oh my goodness I have become my mother!).
100 quid really is too much to be paying but let's just make sure that we
can get some internetty thing which works with 7 separate PCs connected to
it (you can tell computer stuff is not my speciality!!). Personally can I
make a request that we don't connect with AOL? My family have been on AOL
and it's caused us nothing but trouble over the years. I'm also up for a
deal which includes telephone as well. I'd definitely be up for paying that
little bit extra if it was unlimited. There are so many of us that Jamie's
right, we will easily use up our monthly allowance what with all our hard
work *ahem* ie msn!!
Sarah xx
PS Hope you've all had great holidays, I look forward to seeing you all
again soon.
