eileen ingala - new member of weimaraner-chat
This mesage is directed at those people that want to use this forum as

thought this forum was about weimaraners and associated imformation.so

agenda and to chat about things that no one else cares about please

I guess maybe I am a tad dense as I don't understand this statement.

I absolutely understand pets and companions. All of our dogs throughout the years have been companions
first, competition dogs second. Our lives would not be complete without our dogs.
But the ribbons and the titles offer proof that the standard of the Weimaraner breed as a
whole is maintained. By the breed standard, I am including health, temperament, conformation and
ability. If these things are ignored, then the breed as a whole will go to he** in a handbasket. Which
I think Weimaraners lovers as whole do not want to see. The only proof we have of ability, conformation
and temperament is competition, titles and ribbons. For health we have to proceed with testing to ensure
we are not passing potential health problems onto our dogs offspring.
Just my own rambling thoughts.

Nancy and Nevada

The name of the forum is Weimaraner CHAT, not Weimaraner INFO. Perhaps
we were misled. I don't recall anyone saying anything about blue
ribbons and titles, just CHATTING about our dogs and our lives with them.

I wondered why none of the 80 some people who were on the list when I
joined ever posted. Yours is the first. Not very welcoming.

Agreed Martha,  let’s hear from the list owner.
If it’s about my weim it’s chat.

nancy, i could be wrong but i get the sense this list is geared more toward the weim pet owner, hence no talk of ribbons, etc.  every group has a list that fits their needs and so this chat is about the weim and not the world of dog shows, etc.

Who said we can't talk competition and pedigrees?  List owner or someone who subscribed and made assumptions?

And this group has always discussed things other than pet weims?  Who is the one who sent the post, I didn't recognize the email.

Hi,
I think you are 100% right. It bothers me terrible reading all that chat
about everything and anything but our lovely weims.
I thought inscribe to this group , will give me lots of information how
Weimaraner owners and their lovely dogs are in the rest of the world.
As I am living in Europe ( Belgium) I like to talk about our dogs, advice,
story's etc.
So far I am a little disappointed about this "Weimaraner chat " and its
contents. Hope it will change soon.
After all our lovely weims are the most wonderful breed in the world, don't
you think so!

I think if we check back over the past few days, you'll find that most
of the posts WERE about our lovely Weims. We introduced ourselves,
talked about our dogs, our history with the breed, where we were in the
world. Perhaps those posts for some reason didn't reach you--I know
cyberspace can be funny that way sometimes.

When we signed up for this list, it asked what we had to offer. I've
had Weimaraners since 1978. 11 of them in total. Been through a lot of
good and bad times with them, so have lots of experience to offer. I
know a lot of the people who followed me to this list have the same
depth and scope of experience to offer that I do--if not more.

Ingrid, if you want to talk about our dogs, please go ahead and do so.
How many do you have? Their ages? Boys or girls? What are their
cutest personality traits? Most annoying? (Which can sometimes be the
same!)

As I said when I introduced myself, I have two at the moment--Crystal
and Tootles. Maybe you missed that post. Here's the URL to my blog
again, where you can see their pictures-- http://weimlady.blogspot.com
Do you have a blog? Do you have pictures of your dogs that you can
share? If so, please do. I'd love to see them and would love to hear
what living in Belgium with Weims is like.

OK - guess I am as dense I thought. I mean a Weim is a Weim - pet or competitor.
Taking my dog for a run on the beach, seeing my old girl through her cancer or
running Nevada in a Hunt test - it is all Weim chat as far as I can see.
I think maybe I should head back to the old list now that Heather is in charge.

No, you're right!  And you CAN be on both lists.  You have a lot of Weim experience to offer!  Not to mention hilarious Weim stories, thanx to Nevada and Dale and their escapades.

PS to Anonymous Complainer -- Nevada is a Weimaraner.

::: Hello and welcome to all the new members. It is wonderful to have you all here and to help this 'sleepy' group awakened :-)

I will begin with the text from the home page for the group:

Welcome to Weimaraner Chat.

A quiet and sleepy group about all things Weimaraner, with ambition to grow and chin wag.

Not many rules just be nice to each other, stay active to remain in the group and please introduce yourself to the group by including the following:

  1. Your Name
  2. Your Location
  3. How long have you owned Weimaraner/s
  4. How can you benefit the group
  5. How can the group benefit you

The interpretation I had in mind which a prospective new member would get from the above text was one along the lines of:

An easy going and tolerant group showing courtesy to all members which discusses Weimaraners and shares beneficial information in a casual chit-chat way with an expectation that  new and old members will be active to remain on the group.

I may have failed and I would like to apologize to group members for doing so which may have lead to misunderstandings over the last few days.

As the group owner I prefer to 'stay under the radar' so to speak and let members chin wag to their hearts desire. I do not want to take on a 'hard line' role or a 'parenting' type role, I do not want to take sides.

Thinking back some years, more so about the early days of Lists, Forums, and Groups; the Group Owners would be reminding members about trimming their posts, changing the subject line to reflect what the post is about, add OT (off topic) in the subject line before the subject title. The reminding continued but began to evolve. The Group Owners began to upload files clearly explaining all of the above, some Group Owners went as far as making those files into rules and even placing the new members on moderation until they could demonstrate their understanding and willingness to follow what was said and written.

All this was not designed to annoy people but rather create a fair environment for all members within the group.

It takes personal discipline along with control and practice on the part of each and everyone one of the members to achieve all this when posting and responding.

What was once a reminder from the Group Owners, evolving into written files has now become an acceptable unwritten practice.

I have not uploaded any files regarding trimming posts, changing the subject line to reflect what the post is about, add OT (off topic) in the subject line before the subject title. I exercise tolerance and I give each member the opportunity to do all this as a point of habit if not habit then courtesy to the whole membership.

I have not placed any member on moderation until they can show understanding and willingness. I exercise tolerance and I give each member time to demonstrate personal discipline and control.

I do not want to do any of the 'hard line' stuff. However I will because it will be fair on everyone if members can not demonstrate.

You may have noticed in this reply my own compliance in regard to trimming and changing the subject line.

I will send through another post without doing this to help in understanding what  what I mean by all this.

OK, here goes

  1. Your Name - I am Ruth
  2. Your Location - now living in Florida
  3. How long have you owned Weimaraner/s - I have had Weims since 1969; pets, bench champions, field champions and now back to pets and rescue
  4. How can you benefit the group - I would like to think that my years of experience in the breed might allow me to be helpful to others
  5. How can the group benefit you - Since I am weim-less at the moment, I can live vicariously  through you guys...

Heather, you didn't fail - and there was no real misunderstanding - just one anonymous person who thought he/she had the right to dictate the parameters of our discussions and seems to have gone away anyhow...

Keep up the good work

Hi
My name is Lynn and I'm the probably crazy owner of three Weims of my own, one foster Weim and I also keep one of my daughter's Weims at my house. All of mine came from rescue but I certainly am not adverse to someday buying a puppy from a good breeder someday either.
