I built a website using Webeasy 6 for a client and they need the
website files on their computer to do regular updates. I have placed
the files on a CD and loaded it on their computer. They have installed
Webeasy pro 6 on their computer. Their website files do not show up in
Webeasy on their computer under recent documents. Must I build a dummy
web page to have Webeasy to set up a save folder first and then place
their website files in that folder? Why is their website not showing
up in the Webeasy program on their computer? What steps must I do to
make this work? Thanks in advance for any help, as I need to figure
this out ASAP!

Hi,

You might try using the "import" option in webeasy or transfer the
files directly from the web server to their computer using an FTP
program. Good Luck

Go to file> save as > backup. Don't save the file to the same folder
or location. Create a separate folder. If you want it on a CD, then
create a new folder on the CD. You need to put it in a folder though,
otherwise it's scattered all over the CD.

This creates an archived website complete with photos, graphics, and
everything. You can move it from computer to computer. I do this and
store it on a flash drive so I can work on my website at lunchtime
etc. It works like a charm. It's also great for a backup of your site
in case something evil happens. Plus, it only takes about 10 seconds
to save!

Hello,

I am trying to upload my site for the first time and having trouble. I can
not get past the connecting to the ISP section. I'm connected via Charter
cable and have an account with Godaddy. I routinely get a winsock error
messege. I've searched the v-com site and have not found any helpful
information. Has anyone experienced this? Anyone have any advice?

Thanks,
Jim

Make sure that your website address is in the "host name or IP
address" box in the "remote access" tab. Then put in your user ID and
password in the boxes below.

In the General tab, make sure that your site is going to your initial
remote folder.

In the WWW.site tab, make sure you have the full url to your site ex:
http://www.mysite.com

Lastly, make sure that in the Firewall tab "none" is selected. If you
have a firewall on your computer such as windows firewall, turn it off
temporarily. Also, any anti-virus software can also contain a
firewall. disable that too. Whenever I've had uploading or winsock
error problems, if's usually been because of these things. Another tip
is sometimes the upload can "time out" on you. Check your files and
make sure the graphics aren't too huge. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still having the same problems. Also, shortly
before I get the winsock error the publish assistant goes into "not
responding."

Just to make sure I'm entering the correct info; I am entering my website
address in the host name entry? Should this begin http://www. or ftp.? My
user id and password should be my Godaddy account info? Could there be
anything in the Godaddy account section on their website I should change?

Thanks so much for your help.

I use Godaddy to. Make Sure you do this (I had problems in the
beginning too)
1. Click Build, Website
Dialog box opens
2. Make sure the radio button for ALL PAGES is clicked.
3. Click Advanced and make sure the "primary page definiation is set
to index.html"
4. out the rest of the stuff (these are your meta-tags or something
like that)
5. Click OK
6. Check-click "Publish on Internet"
7. Click OK
8. Says do you want to overwrite. Click OK
9. Click NEXT
10. Click Connect
11. The Next Box opens should have tabs across the top of Remote
Acces, General, WWW Site and etc. Do the following for each:

Remote access shoud read:
Host Name or IP address:
ftp://site...@sitename.com
User Identifier: emailed to you by go daddy
Password: emailed to you by go daddy

Click the General Tab:
Initial remote folder: LEAVE BLANK
Don't mess with Initial Local Folder
IP Port: Set to Default

WWW Site:
WWW site URL should be:
http://www.sitename.com
Primary Page: LEAVE BLANK

Firewall:
NONE

Click OK

Click Next

Next Box:
the third fill in box should read:
to the remote folder on "ftp://yoursite$yoursite.com"
underneath shouldread
/sitename
Click "Let web easy automatically manage the website."

Click Next

It should start uploading.

If this does not help let me know. I vaguely remember having to do
something thru the back door at the Godaddy site.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to be such a pain but I followed your
directions to the "T" and I'm still getting the winsock error. Any other
suggestions? I'm about ready to throw my hands in the air!

Thanks again,

Do you have a firewall installed/running. If so try disabling it ONLY
while you try to build the site.
Also you won't have to re-do the steps outlined above, WE should save
them.
Disable it and then try the build process again.
Then re-enable the firewall.

If not then post the specific winstock error that you are getting.
like is it 10035 or 10053 etc.

I won't be able to help anymore tonight gotta get up at 5 am.
If you want to work on it. Go to Google.com and type in the error you
are getting like "winstock error 10035" and see if you can find the
answer that way.

Good Luck

Jim Golden - You do NOT put your website address in the Host name box
this is for the FTP address of your hosting company, it may be
ftp.charter.net or whatever, you need to find this out. below goes
your user name & password, for your user name put eg : jimgolden,
dont put
jimg...@charter.net

Actually, I've built 3 sites, and with the WE publish assistant, I DO
put my website address in the host name box. It works perfectly. The
only problems I've ever had were trying to put the ftp address in
there. It must be a wierd electrical demon or something, but whenever
I put the ftp address in host name box it gives me an upload error.
Who's to say what happens in the strange world of WE.

Jim, You might even try uploading one page at a time. For example,
start with your home page. On the "build" menu, choose "current page".
Then, make sure you have the right destination folder. Maybe your site
is big and it's timing out. Other than that, I think I would consider
re-loading the software. A dll may not have installed correctly.

Let us know what happens.

Thanks to all who responded with help. I think I have the problem
identified. I called GoDaddy tech support and the problem appears to have
been on their side. Now I have two more quick questions:

1. Is it possible to insert a small size picture slideshow on my homepage?
What I was thinking of doing is putting a slideshow about the size of the
placeholders that rotates through pictures without the user having to click
anything to start the show.
2. I'm using the Active Business Black template. Is it possible to extend
the pages downward? I have too much text for one page and it extends beyond
the white box. What I'm wondering is how do I get the white text box area
(that is incorporated in the template) to extend down so all of my my text
is in the box?

Thanks so much for everyone's help!

For your questions--number 1, It is possible to put a slideshow onto
your page. However, I have never been able to successfully do it for
my website. I know it's an html issue of just inserting code, but for
some reason it doesn't work for me. I would say that it's a user
problem (me) more than anything. If I figure it out, I'll get back to
you.

On your second question, what I have done is just change the page
size. It's very simple. You can do this by clicking on the "page"
button in the edit menu. Then at the top, click on "size". From there
you can manually change the size. The max I believe is 5000 pixels.
This will change all of your pages to that size, but not to worry. On
line, the page only scrolls for as much info you have on it.

I think version 7 addresses slideshow but I have not upgraded yet.

The page size fix does not work for me. I set a page with photos that is
much longer than the others and all the pages show up with WHITE at the
bottom.

Frustrating.

The page size fix works basically with a solid background. You can
change the background color, or leave it white. If you're using a
template, there will be white page space below it. I design my own
templates in photoshop, and graduate the bottom of the template to
pure white so my pages will all be consistent. There are other
graphics in the clipart files such as borders and separators that
might help disguise cut offs.
