Publishing a web site

I am using verizon dsl. When I try to publish my website, I get a
message - "unable to connect to the remote host. Ensure you have an
internet connection to your hosting provider before publishing your
web site" I have a connection with the hosting site. What am I doing
wrong.

For some reason, sometimes when i turn off my firewall it will work.

Are you typing the correct ftp details for verizon?
presumaby ftp.verizon.com ?
