How can we advocate for our science to policy makers?

I just registered for this Webinar, which might be of interest to the members here. It's hosted by the Union of Concerned Scientists, and focuses on the role of science in the upcoming administration, and should feature discussions about science advocacy and communication.

Hi - we are working on putting together a notecard for people willing to call their local and state public servants. Once we have that together we will distribute it to the WeAreForScience community as a whole. It should make calling a breeze!

Going forward, we are going to work on informing ourselves on current science policy so that we can have a strong voice speaking for science and science funding.

Hello Everyone,
Here is a good doc which goes over confirmation hearings and how to oppose cabinet members if you do oppose them.

In order to kick off the effort to create a "notecard" to use in calling, here is an openly edit-able doc.  I have begun by opposing Scott Pruitt, Trump's pick to head the EPA.  Please modify this as you see fit and choose another topic that you feel strongly about and write your own.

Here is the schedule of nomination hearings, just in case you are interested:
As you can see, the nomination hearing for Scott Pruitt is on Wednesday of next week.  Perhaps one to watch out for.

Hope this gives us a good start!

The following is a document describing how to plan a town hall meeting.  Town Halls are run when congress is not in session and congressmen and women come to their district offices.  We are having some town halls coming up because session is out on the 24th.  Here is that link:

Also, here is the link for the legislative schedule so that we know when our representatives are out of session:

Please e-mail me directly if you'd like to work on town halls so we can write out questions and come up with a repeatable plan.  My e-mail is jar...@psu.edu.

Thanks!!
Julianna
