Western District of Washington

Litigation Academy

October 24-25, 2022

The Litigation Academy is a partnership between the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington (WDWA) and the Federal Bar Association for the WDWA.  The Academy will offer a two-day in-person course for attorneys looking to improve their trial skills and gain experience in federal court.

Participants will prepare and present direct and cross examinations for federal judges in a live courtroom setting and receive instruction and feedback from members of the bench and bar. Our keynote speaker will be Jeffery Robinson.

To ensure a truly meaningful experience, enrollment in the Academy will not exceed 25 participants. Care will be taken to admit participants from diverse backgrounds across a range of practice areas, sections of the law, and years of experience.

The 2022 Litigation Academy will consist of two half-day sessions on October 24th (PM) and 25th (AM).  Note that advance preparation will be required, and materials are expected to be available at least two weeks prior to the Academy.  Cost for the program, including materials, is $250; scholarships based on financial need are available.

How to Apply:  Applicants should submit the attached application, along with a one-page cover letter explaining why you are interested in the Litigation Academy, and what you hope to gain from the experience.  To the extent you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please also explain the basis for your request.  Any requests for scholarships are confidential.

Application materials should be submitted no later than September 16, 2022 to:  WDWALitigatio...@gmail.com.  Applicants will be screened by members of the Litigation Academy Committee, and successful applicants will be notified by no later than September 30, 2022

All participants will be required to comply with the Court’s access requirements at the time of the event, including COVID-19 protocols. Please refer to the Court’s website for more information: https://www.wawd.uscourts.gov/.
