Hey Trihards,
Hope your winter break has been Tritastic! This is a long email so buckle in, but uber packed with information!

Spring Race Reimbursement Schedule:
InCydeman: January 14th-15th (anyone happen to be in Iowa @Nick Rafferty?) https://market-stuorg.sws.iastate.edu/159/product

Tri WashU (#hypehypehype): February 19th (registration link to come shortly)

Tropical Indoor Triathlon: March 5th https://recserv.uiowa.edu/triathlon

St. Louis Half and Full Marathon: April 9th http://gostlouis.org/events/marathon-family-fitness-weekend/

Spring Requirements:
Attend at least one practice per week to be considered a part of the team (this is a new club sport regulation for reimbursement). We will be checking everyone in at practice. The exact implementation of this discussed below, it involves SnapChat. However, with this new requirement we'll be expanding our practice schedule and keeping it very consistent until the days are a little longer.

Tri-Team Organized Practice Schedule beginning 1/22:
Sunday: Ride with Reid, 10-12 PM
Monday: Swim with Jess, 8:30-10:30 PM
Tuesday: Run and Core, Early group with Mike 2-4 PM, Late group with Caleb 6-8 PM
Wednesday: Swim with Jess, 8:30-10:30 PM
Thursday: Brick workout, either hour of spinning with Mike or hour of drills with Reid and hour of core and running with Caleb, 4:30-6:30 PM
Friday: Lifting with Joel, 4-6 PM
Saturday: Long run with Kate and Caleb, 10-12 PM

Deep Stretching, Meditation, and Hydration practices will be interspersed at peoples' desires.

Other opportunities that will count as practices:
Any time you swim, bike, run, lift, or do core with anyone else on the team

Practice Tracking:
Please add WashUTri on SnapChat to your friends. Every time you come to a practice simply Snap a photo of yourself at the practice to your account to get credit for your attendance. If it is a practice you're doing on your own with another teammate simply take a photo of you all together. There will be prizes including picking where team dinners are, priority for race reimbursement, and potential breaks in dues among other things for the people who come to the most practices.

Team Dinners:
Every Thursday after BRICK workouts will be a team dinner. We will reimburse these when we are able to with priority placed on the Thursdays before races.

Dues:
Dues for people wishing to attend nationals will be $75.
Dues for everyone else will be $50.
Annual USA Triathlon membership is $50.

Nationals:
We will be bringing exactly 20 people to nationals. Priority will be given to people who have attended the most practices.  Planned interest and eligibility is expected to be around 30 people. For people who have not qualified thus far, four qualification opportunities remain: InCydeman, Winter Wonderland, Tri WashU, and the Tropical Indoor Triathlon. Qualfication is achived upon completion.

Notes from Swim Team Super Coach Jess:

(1) Practices will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30-10:00 pm (we will use the full time). We’re going to be focusing more on distance and endurance work, so expect that once we’re back in the pool, the volume will be creeping up.

(2) I will have printed workouts with me that will be placed in each lane so you can read the workout as we go along. There will be a base pace listed at the top of each sheet, this base pace will differ from lane to lane and you will use this to determine which lane you will swim in. Over time, you will get a sense for what the right base pace for you is. If a base pace is too hard or too easy for you, move up or down a lane accordingly. Which lane is assigned to which pace can vary from practice to practice depending on who is present, just make sure you are in a lane with the appropriate base pace and you will be fine.

(3) We will have 6 test set days interspersed between now and Nationals. It will be three different test sets each done twice to track progress as the season goes on. They will be on 1/30, 2/13, 2/27, 3/13, 3/27, and 4/10. Mark your calendars. Please do your best to be at practice on these days. If you cannot make one of these practices, I highly encourage you to do the sets on your own time to keep track of your progress. There is an off chance that I won’t be able to make two of these practices myself due to some evening clinic/hospital hours that have not yet been scheduled that I cannot control (although I am working with our scheduling office to try and avoid having to miss any of these days). If that turns out to be the case, I will make sure you still have all the resources necessary to do these practices without my direct supervision, but ideally it won’t come to that.

(4) Every workout will be posted here after practice for your reference and for anyone who wishes to use these workouts on their own time: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1SqVibAI6AzLReLhBvX0htWBSpKAwzc5mok97SwKJ2Oo/edit?usp=sharing. Another great resource for workouts is this site hosted by my old college swim club if you are looking for more workouts to do: https://app.box.com/pcsworkouts.

(5) Anyone who wants to do additional work with me one-on-one can let me know in advance and I will make 10:00-10:30 pm after practices and possibly weekend times during rec swim available to you. The key there is to let me know IN ADVANCE so I can plan for it.

It’s been a pleasure working with you all this year. I’m really excited for 2017 and I hope you are too. See you all on deck soon!

Much love,

Jess
