Yo Trihards,

Hope everyone’s summers have been kicking and a lot more of full of training than mine has. This is the first of probably two or three emails from me before the semester actually starts and it goes through a ton of stuff so hopefully everyone will have the patience to actually read through it all so stay with me if you can.

Shoutouts:

Make time for everything med school Jess got married! #jenrychao Big hugs for her in the fall!

Freshman Standout and Team Bonding Chair I. Grabes and former president Brian Chin? killed it at Memphis in May.

Slackasaurus Jeremy Comer stopped complaining long enough (love you <3) to actually complete TriRock Philly in a fairly decent time

All those fun little injuries I had in the spring turned out to be dislocated bones in my ankle, a partially torn (not severed! Yay!) IT band, and torn ligaments in both of my thumbs! Go me!

Nick and Grigg have been world-traveling and Kate got back from her semester abroad in Spain!

Team Mom Juhi is off in the blistering heat of Texas doing financial planning for HVAC juggernaut Lennox!

2-year president B. Chin is prepping for med school at Penn State!

Jeremy got hired by a consulting firm!

Dual-degree wonder kid Lizzie Halper seems to be loving her new Microsoft co-workers!

Resident IronWoman Caitlin has been gallivanting around Europe and is starting at Stryker soon!

Molly has seemed to be pretty off the map as she gets ready to start her doctorate at Princeton!

Resident Ironman Joe probably started 3 more startups over the summer!

Here’s an update on our exec board for the upcoming year!

Exec Board

President: Mike Kramer (making sure everything runs well and goes swimmingly throughout the year, couldn’t come up with a bike pun though)

VP: Nick Rafferty, Nick Cornejo (being the go to guys for running practice when I’m not there and what not)

Treasurer: Kate Westenberg (getting you your money back and telling me when I can’t purchase something fun)

Social Chair: Adam Becker (organizing two dank parties throughout the semester)

Team Bonding Chair: Isaac Graber (making us watch land before time, buying us happy meals and other fun team events)

Academic: Catherine Waye (coordinating which classes everyone is in and who might be able to tutor others)

Race Director: Emily Morgan (aka team mom, orange slices and making sure no one forgets anything)

Membership: Connie Gan (helping people realize how awesome it is to be a part of tri)

Swim Coach: Jessica Hao (exhausting you in the pool)

Run Coach: Sam Cohen (making Jeremy’s track workouts look easy)

Bike Coach: Reid Schur (who you go to when you have a flat/want to have life-altering conversation)

Why I Tri Contest

If everyone can send me a 10-30 second video talking about why you do triathlon/how you got into it/why you stuck around that would be sweet. Winner gets half off dues for the semester. If an alumnus wins we’ll hit you with a box of nutrition (Hammer Gel/Power Bar/Gu/Accelerade/Quest Bar/etc.) of your choice.

Twitter

After not having access to the account since 2009, the handle @washutri on Twitter is going to become the new hub for workout news. I highly encourage everyone to follow it and turn notifications on for whenever the account posts so that you never miss a workout! I’ll be posting workout times the morning of and the details of the workout immediately after for anyone who’d like to find time to do it on their own!

Race Schedule

St. Petersburg Recplex Rookies and Rockstars 9/25 (great first race of the year, modified sprint distance) **Hoping to bring 20**

Innsbrook 9/17 (Sprint, Quartermax, Halfmax (these distances are based on the non-branded long course triathlon rather than Ironman), very very hilly course, but a lot of fun)

**Hoping to bring 15**

Iowa's Best Dam Tri 9/18 (Olympic distance, collegiate nationals qualifier)

**Hoping to bring 10**

Border Wars Triathlon (longest race of the year, half-ironman distance, same weekend as recplex unfortunately, not a great race, but only one in our area) **Hoping to bring 4**

Indoor Recplex/J Indoor (great indoor tris as the semester winds down), available most weekends starting in November and part of next semester)

Dues

We have a lot of money so this semester is going to be a lot of fun, but in order to ensure commitment and give us a bit of money in our fundraising account dues are going to be $50 for the semester. If you’re even going to race once this pays for it instantly as our average cost per race including transportation is around $120 per person this semester. Details on who to give cash to/make checks out to coming soon.

Love Y’all,
