Let me say this and just get to the point.  Never, ever let
anyone run or walk up to you, and get in your face in a fit of anger
or rage.  You might think that you look cool because someone who
is almost eye-ball to eye-ball with you and  is yelling and
spurting obscenities in your face while you look at him calm and
collected is something 007 would do, is just foolish.  Just
because you saw your favorite  baseball player yell in an
umpire's face while the umpire looked on with a cool, stern and
determined look - is just not a parallel situation for you.  Some
people can't make the distinction between sport and reality.
If you let anybody get within inches of your face, don't think that
you are protected from a blow to the face.  True, he can't hit
you with a "hay-maker" punch from this position, but he surely can do
severe damage to your face with a well-placed and destructive head-
butt.
Reason #1 - They Are Able To Hit You At Will - Close enough is too
close.  To allow someone to get close enough to hit you while
they are angry is to make the dangerous assumption that they will not
attempt to hit you.  On what would you base this wishful thinking?
I know, you read this in the 4th chapter of "Fantasy Self-
Defense" from the Lost Books of La-La Land.
Reason #2 - A Friendly  Conversation Does Not Require You To Go
Eyeball-To-Eyeball - Outside of gazing into each other's eyes during a
romantic rendezvous, two persons rarely need to "face off" close up to
talk.
Reason #3 - Your Personal Space Is Sacred - The fight starts the
minute you say, "Don't walk up on me," and they enter your personal
space anyway.  Your job now is to initiate the physical deterrent
and then the follow ups once they have invaded your space, which is to
execute the surprise, preemptive strike and follow through with
continuous and repeated blows until the threat it neutralized.
Reason #4 - Anger + Physical Proximity = Danger To You - Closed
distance is danger - whenever you see there is heated anger.
Reason #5 - You Can Never Know How Angry A Stranger Is Or What He Is
Capable Of Doing - I don't know about you, but I have a hard enough
time predicting my own behavior in unusual circumstances.  Who
can even begin to predict the behavior of a person about whom we know
very little or nothing at all?  So, to avoid unnecessary danger
and threats to your safety never, ever allow anyone to walk up to you
close in a fit of rage or anger.
