From this response,  it seems we need to encourage neighbors to register.  High response could net us pickup priority.

Good morning Daniel,

Thank you for your email inquiring about storm debris pick-up.  ARR is requesting residents contact 311 via phone ,311 app, or 311 Online Request to register their address, so ARR has a clear picture of the number of requests as they develop their city-wide plan.  ARR is regularly updating their website with Winter Storm Updates:  Austin Resource Recovery | AustinTexas.gov and Storm Debris Removal | AustinTexas.gov.  ARR is working to add  a public-facing map to their website.  This map will show all ARR routes along with dates for storm debris pick-ups.  ARR also recognizes not all neighbors may be able to clear their debris at the same time and additional pick-ups will be needed.  Registering also assists ARR in knowing if they will need to revisit an area.

Thanks,

Resource Recovery text messages and Statesman article say to call 311 to schedule branch pickup.
However, since whole neighborhoods all through your district have streets lined with piled up branches, it seems silly to have individuals tying up the 311 line, when there should be a city-wide plan for branch pickup.
I would like to see an announcement, PSA, about the city's plan for picking up branches
Thank you.

Yesterday there was a large black truck with two men with paper maps who said they were documenting how many houses had branches on the curb. It was not marked as city or with a contractors name. When we spoke to them they didn’t identify themselves or who they were with. Weren’t very friendly. So who knows.

Resource Recovery has contracted with 2 private companies to help with branch pickup.

I'm feeling pretty patient about my branches. This job is so huge and I would rather the City focus on places where the debris is piled up on bike lanes or sidewalks near schools or sticking out into the lanes of major roads. They'll get to us.

I completely agree. There are neighborhoods that were hit way harder than ours. As tragic as this tree massacre was, over all Walnut Crossing fared better than some.

Just a thought, if one has the ability they can turn those downed branches into fire wood for the next storm. My understanding is several folks were having difficulties finding firewood. Now it would seem there are piles of free firewood sitting on the curbs. I guess a way to turn the negative into a positive.

Saw pickup happening this morning on Scribe.  Guessing it will continue through the neighborhood.

Oak and cedar elm are both great firewood, oak being better.
The oak if cut, stacked and covered, larger pieces split, will generally be good firewood by this time next year.
While you might get the green wood to burn with other dryer wood, it's not a good idea unless you are already regularly servicing your chimney as green wood causes more creosote build up.

One more side note on this....do not stack any wood right up against your house so you avoid termites :)
Our brush was picked up on Danny Dr this morning so hopefully they are sweeping our whole neighborhood today.

I cut and stacked the nicest pieces from my yard.  I keep a safety stock of firewood.  Came in very handy last week.

The work crews have had to endure criticism for taking breaks, and for not looking busy enough.  There were even some threats.  So it's understandable they might not seem too open

Did they have a truck with a crane, a shredder, or were they picking it all up by hand?

I'm not being impatient, just passing along what the city wants us to do.
