Let's all pray hard for that the Reproductive Health Bill fails to pass in Congress. It is a major attack against civil liberties and morals. You, for example, can be jailed for discouraging a pregnant woman from taking an abortion-inducing drug!!
Email from Ludy Tejero:
Hi! Here's the RH bill attached (I was the one who did the highlighting). I got this copy from UP and they said there was no bill # yet at that time it was sent to them. Below is also some arguments that I and another pro-life faculty in UP have arrived at after reading the bill. You may want to pass the email below to your contacts...

Did you know that a priest who gives a personal advice against IUD and other contraceptives could end up in jail if the Reproductive Health and Population Development Act of 2008 gets passed into law? Yes, this was confirmed by Ms. Lagman who answered affirmatively to a question citing the above scenario, during a recent round table discussion at the University of the Phil. which I attended. The basis for jailing the priest is in Sec 21 on Prohibited Acts in the bill (please refer to attached bill). Are we now going to be deprived of the freedom of speech?
Another disturbing detail of this Reproductive Health (RH) bill is the inclusion of OXYTOCIC DRUGS under the definition of "Basic Emergency Obstetric Care" in Section 4.k. . There is no qualifying condition or scenario where the oxytocic drugs will be given. Oxytocin is normally given to induce labor for those who are really due to give birth (last trimester of pregnancy). But if this is given early in pregnancy, then the oxytocin is for inducing ABORTION. Relate Sec 4.k. with Sec. 21.a.3. where it prohibits to "Refuse to provide reproductive health care services to an abused minor". Interpolating the two provisions, it therefore means that a health professional is obliged to provide reproductive services to an abused minor which includes giving oxytocic drug, an aborting drug when given early in pregnancy.
It is disconcerting to note that in Sec 10 of the bill, Contraceptives are considered Essential Drugs. IUD, pills, etc will be given the same value and importance as TB drugs – when at the moment, the health centers could not even adequately provide the antibiotics to all TB patients in the community. Our meager resources intended for vital drugs that sick Filipinos need like anti-malarial drugs, anti-schistosomiasis drugs are further depleted to give way to contraceptives which do not prevent or cure any disease. As a matter of fact, some of these contraceptives are abortifacients, i.e., eliminate a fertilized ovum that already has life. Take for instance the IUD: the action of this device is to prevent the implantation or attachment of a fertilized ovum into the uterus. So, the fertilized ovum cannot thrive and therefore dies without even the mother knowing it.
These are just some of the many arguments against this RH bill. There are more compelling concerns that the CBCP, Pro-Life Phils (www.prolife.org.ph) and other groups like ALFI (www.alfi.org.ph) have presented. Please visit their websites or contact them on how we can contribute to upholding the right of the unborn to life.
The time to act is NOW before it becomes too late.
