I could not agree more with you about the problems at Mrs. Green.
This indicates severe managerial problems. As I thought that I
indicated, I very rarely went into the store. But upon examination
of products in which I was interested, I found some that were not
subject to expiration and that were priced roughly the same as its
competitors. I even found one expensive product, high dosage
omega-3, which is important to me for health reasons, priced at what
I have to call a steal. So I would go into the store to buy it but
the product eventually disappeared from their shelves. Anyway, I
could have supported the store in a very minor way by buying those
products where the price was competitive and the expiration date was
not a factor but that was more trouble than I was willing to take. I
suspect that others feel the same. By the way, just to anticipate a
question, yes I did complain to the management just after the store
opened. That got me nowhere, including any interest in my complaint.
As I said, there were managerial problems.
In a great sense, we are spoiled by the ease of access to various
stores. If I don't like Mrs. Green, what is it for me to go to
McCaffrey, Whole Earth, Whole Food, Trader Joe or Wegmans? Besides,
if I go to any of these stores, I can take care of other needs as
well, something less possible if I go to McCaffrey or the late Mrs.
Green. In order to have a successful market in PJ, it would have to
be either sensational or special. Otherwise, I am not sure that with
the access and choice that we have that people in this area need
another large market (as opposed to would like another large
market).
