Or, is it closed for renovation? We found it closed around 4 pm on Saturday with a notice behind the glass door.

Hi,
They closed 4 stores. Does not look like a renovation/temporary:

Thank you for the article, I was never a big follower of the store but its sad that once again Princeton Junction is without a market!

It is certainly true that Princeton Junction is once more without a market but, unfortunately, it is also true that too many of Princeton Junction's residents don't care. Had we cared, we would have patronized Mrs. Green. As anyone who has entered the store ever since it opened knows, it was usually empty of customers. Had it been as busy as is, say, Whole Foods, Mrs. Green would still be open. A lot can be said as to why we didn't patronize the store (I lay a great deal of the blame on Mrs. Green's management), but the fact remains that we didn't. I am also sorry to see it go but I also realize that I am part of the cause of its demise. I didn't like the store relative to its competition, so I very rarely entered its doors but like, I am afraid, a lot of PJ residents, had I cared enough about there being such a store so close to where I live, I would have gone there despite my reservations.

Dear Arnold,
I tried to shop there, but I couldn't get past there high prices, there ever changing stock, overpriced fruit and vegetables, high meat prices that were often on already past its date, fish that usually smelled rotten, and nosey staff.  I will not support a company that can't guarantee there items to be fresh, fairly priced and in stock.  If you think our area is the reason they closed you need to go over to the shopping enter and ask some questions They had more issues than just keeping there store stocked!
If you want to be a customer at such an establishment, go right ahead, but I don't choose to support them and I can tell you that many locals here found the same issues I did and wouldn't pay there high prices.  I will never spend money at a local place if I doesn't fit my needs.  Last year, I shopped for a Turkey there, it cost $ 63.00!  You pay those prices

I could not agree more with you about the problems at Mrs. Green. This indicates severe managerial problems. As I thought that I indicated, I very rarely went into the store. But upon examination of products in which I was interested, I found some that were not subject to expiration and that were priced roughly the same as its competitors. I even found one expensive product, high dosage omega-3, which is important to me for health reasons, priced at what I have to call a steal. So I would go into the store to buy it but the product eventually disappeared from their shelves. Anyway, I could have supported the store in a very minor way by buying those products where the price was competitive and the expiration date was not a factor but that was more trouble than I was willing to take. I suspect that others feel the same. By the way, just to anticipate a question, yes I did complain to the management just after the store opened. That got me nowhere, including any interest in my complaint. As I said, there were managerial problems.

In a great sense, we are spoiled by the ease of access to various stores. If I don't like Mrs. Green, what is it for me to go to McCaffrey, Whole Earth, Whole Food, Trader Joe or Wegmans? Besides, if I go to any of these stores, I can take care of other needs as well, something less possible if I go to McCaffrey or the late Mrs. Green. In order to have a successful market in PJ, it would have to be either sensational or special. Otherwise, I am not sure that with the access and choice that we have that people in this area need another large market (as opposed to would like another large market).

Dear Arnold,
I am so mortified I seem to had totally forgotten your last paragraph in your email.  Yes, I agree, we all struggled with Mrs. Greens!  I am sorry if I was a bit critical and wondering where my memory was.  Thanks for your email and take care.
