2024 Western Historians Meeting Schedule

Friends, below is our schedule for the 2024 meeting May 16-18.   Note that we are not in Chattanooga, but nearby in Dalton (as we were two years ago).   There is an Iron Man competition in Chattanooga that made the hotel room rates skyrocket.

Please indicate whether you are coming so we can make some final meal plans.   Also, if there is a member whose name/address you do not see on this email, please forward this to them, and copy me, so I can make note of that.  It appears that the googlegroups that Kit Rushing set up some years ago is no longer working.

            6:00 Dinner at Hamilton’s 243 N. Hamilton St.  (for those who can make it) 

 

FRIDAY, MAY 17 (All sessions at the historic Huff House, 314 N. Selvidge St.)

 

Business Meeting, 9:00-9:30 Welcome and Business

           Includes financial update and deciding meeting site for 2025

 

Session 1, 9:30-11:15, First Discussion Session, Dave Powell, Facilitator

           Topic:    The Road to Chattanooga, 1862 and 1863

Break, 11:15-11:30

 

Lunch, 11:30-12:30

             This will be a catered meal at the Huff House, cost is $20.00.  Entre is chicken tenders. 

              Group photo following lunch

 

Session 2, 12:30-2:30, Second Discussion Group, Bob Jenkins, Facilitator

              Topic:  The First Phase of the Atlanta Campaign, from Dalton to Cassville. 

 

 

Session 3, 2:45-4:00, Third Discussion Session, Larry Daniel, Facilitator

               Topic: Current state of Western Theater Historiography

                Includes a brief review of Western Theater books published since last meeting

                Networking: As usual we will go around the table and share our current projects

                Wives and significant others welcome.
