Co-Founded in 1998 by John F. Marszalek and Michael B. Ballard of Mississippi State University, Historians of the Civil War Western Theater is intended to provide a forum for the informal sharing of information, ideas, and concerns among historians interested in the western theater, including the Trans-Mississippi, of the Civil War.
No formal papers are given; the purpose is to give interested historians a chance to enjoy a retreat-type atmosphere and engage in dialogue with old and new friends. Annual meetings are held in the spring and consist of one day of informal discussions on various topics of interest and one day of sightseeing.
Our organization continues to be limited to individuals publishing books and articles on the Western or Trans Mississippi Theaters of the Civil War in main-line presses or journals. Please contact Dr. Marszalek or Dr. Ballard if you are interested in joining Western Theater Historians Association.
