Dr. Khamis is the Director of the Statistics Center, anyone that works
for him will probably never sweat over statistics again. I had him as
a professor when I was an undergrad, and he teaches our graduate
statistics class.

Our thoughts are to have the student work a few days with him, and the
other days (each week) in perhaps Mariana Morris's lab, a
cardiovascular lab.

Khamis project - Initially, the student's quantitative and statistical
background will be assessed. Then, some reading will be assigned to
the student (customized to the student's particular background) in an
"independent study" format in order to provide the student with the
statistical tools necessary to analyze data.

At the appropriate time, four to six data sets coming from Statistical
Consulting Center (SCC) clients (with client approval) or from other
sources -- all from real medical studies -- will be made available to
the student. The student will work with personnel in the SCC,
including graduate students working in the SCC, to carry out
statistical/epidemiological procedures on the data. These will
include descriptive statistical techniques, graphical procedures, and
some inferential procedures. The end product may be a poster or a
written report or an oral presentation of one or more of the projects.
