              Application Deadline May 1st

Dear John Harrison

I am asking for your assistance in filling openings for violin in the Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific. Scholarship assistance is available for applications received by May 1st, 2008.

If you can recommend one or more of your students that are advanced enough to fill  this position - please e-mail me their name, telephone or e-mail address or have them contact me directly.  Although this is a last minute request, it may be an opportunity for one of your students to take advantage of this exciting Orchestral Academy because of your recommendation.

A description of the program is below with links to the SOAP website.

I hope you will be able to help us, and perhaps one of your students.  Many thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Don James, Artistic Director

UNIQUE

This unique program preparing advanced students and young professionals for a career in music performance and in obtaining a position in a professional orchestra, will take place June 16 - 29, 2008, in the picturesque, seaside town of Powell River, British Columbia – a Cultural Capital of Canada.

Students perform in the Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific under the baton of Music Director Arthur Arnold (The Netherlands) and study with renowned players from some of the world’s finest orchestras.

hspace=PROGRAM

The program is based on the professional model - a week of rehearsal culminating in a concert performance. The repertoire for this season is: Beethoven, Sympony no. 6; Debussy, La Mer; Ravel, Bolero; Mahler, Lieder aus des Knaben Wunderhorn and Bartok's, Concerto for Orchestra. Faculty assist students in improving their skills and techniques through daily master classes and private lessons. Students have the opportunity to discuss all aspects of the profession with the faculty.

AUDITION TRAINING

The audition program helps students become confident with the process of auditioning. Students take part in ‘live auditions’ to improve their skills and to gain more experience.  They improve their performance presentation and self confidence.  Students are informed of the audition requirements and expectations of North American, European and Asian orchestras.
