Dr. Margaret Nichols Baldridge, Professor of Violin and Viola, has been
at The University of Montana since 1992. Dr. Baldridge is an active
solo, chamber music and orchestral performer, and is a frequent
adjudicator in the Pacific Northwest. She is the violinist in the
Montana Piano Trio and The Sapphire Trio. Dr. Baldridge is the
Concertmaster of the Missoula Symphony, and a Concertmaster in the
String Orchestra of the Rockies. For the last nine summers she was an
artist-faculty member and coach of the I Solisti de Brevard String
Orchestra of the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina. In
2006 Dr. Baldridge, with the Sapphire Trio, gave performances and master
classes in the countries of Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
This tour was sponsored by The US State Department Cultural Initiative
Program entitled "American Women in the Arts". Previous tours with The
Sapphire Trio and the Montana Piano Trio include concerts and master
classes in Austria, Germany, Japan, and across the United States. The
Montana Piano Trio commissioned and gave the premiere performance of
David Maslanka's Montana Music (1993). She received her Bachelor of
Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Eastman School of Music
and her Master of Music degree from Northwestern University.
