R2T4 process

Hello,

Does your Bursar/Student Accounts office determine the students who require an R2T4 calculation? 

Currently my team calculates the R2T4 for FA so that they can use the information to process R2T4. My analyst thinks this is a FA function not a Bursar function.

Our financial aid team handles this calculation and will place a hold on the student record if there's a balance. To be honest, this is the first time I've ever heard of student accounts handling the calculation. 

Do you know the reason for this at Lane?

Thanks Fredderick for the response. 

According to FA, my predecessor says that other colleges have student accounts handling this process. But I also received a "capacity issue" response as to why FA cannot take this process back. 

I wanted to take a poll from other schools as it didn't make sense to me why my department would handle any FA stuff as we don't' know the regulations, etc.

At The Evergreen State College, FA does the return of T4 .  Before Covid, FA also used to send us the form completed and we would send the student a letter advising them of the return of funds and how much more they owe now. I think FA uses emails to send that information now. 

 

While working at the State University of New York at Albany, I was one of the Assistant  Director in the student accounts office and I was in charge of all T4 calculations.   So I guess it depends!    It  does make more sense for FA to be in charge though!

And to add to my comment about me doing the calculation for SUNY-Albany until I left back in 2008, I was given that duty because FA was not doing a great job, were always late reporting, and when  a state auditor looked at those T4, the university received a large bill of late interest.   Then, I was the lucky one who took over for 8 yrs!!!     So!  Yes T4 needs to go and stay in FA.

The financial aid office calculates the R2T4 and our office verifies the numbers (amount disbursed to the student account, charges etc.).

Accounting and Business Services (ABS) neither sends bills to parents nor messages parents or guardians directly. Students are responsible for their WOU charges; any financial information must be passed from student to parent or guardian.

ABS employees may talk with parents or guardians only after the student has completed a Release of Confidential Information form each academic year. Even after the form is signed, ABS does not initiate contact with parents or guardians.
