Cat Folk,
A CMA member is listing their basically unused NACRA 500 mk2, figured I'd send it here to see if anybody was interested.   Looks nice.

Cheers,
K

Would this be a decent boat to race on Tuesday nights? I see no spinnaker. Is there a trapeze on this boat?

Hi William,
Our Tuesday night racing is structured to welcome all catamarans. Each boat is assigned a SCHRS handicap number. Each boat keeps their own race elapsed time and submits it to the email machine. Voodoo is applied and scoring it the result.
I don't know much about the Nacra 500. There is a Nacra 570 and a couple of Hobie 16s at the club. But they haven't raced with us on Tuesdays (yet).
It was nice meeting you last week. Come again next week and chat with the guys. There are other guys who can answer your questions better than I can.

The Nacra 500 Mk. 2 is primarily designed as a recreational/learn to sail boat. Think souped up Hobie Wave. A fun boat in a spot that regularly sees 15kts of wind or more I suspect. The 570 I've raced against was quite slow, closer to a Hobie 16 than most of the active boats at the club. Not to say it isn't a good boat, or a quick boat in the grand scheme of boats, but a little bit of a different league.

I'm admittedly biased, but if considering spending that kind of money, I would buy a more modern F18 first (my 2nd boat is sort of for sale, ~$23k, it's a 2022, current hull/rig design, and fully sorted) or if you don't want to manage crew, the A-Cat fleet at WRSC is hard to beat and those boats can be had for ~$10k. There are also Nacra 20's that occasionally pop up for sale, generally for less than $10k.

I'll second what Sam said.

The biggest problem is the skeg (no dagger board) design. It's nice for a beginner, or someone sailing in shallow water, but performance will suffer across the board. Won't point as high, more leeway, slower to fly a hull.
