This was discussed at Stan & Joe's a couple Tuesdays ago and I'm finally making good on it. See below for links to YouTube videos and some of my own comments on same.  Disclaimer - I blew multiple tacks over the weekend in the chop and slop so I'm no expert and still very much a work in progress so please watch at your leisure and let's discuss and get faster together.

Tacking starts around 1:30
These are foilers but 8 years ago they weren’t foiling upwind yet so I think the tacking technique is still relevant. I watched the video and wrote out the below steps and this is what I try to keep in my mind when tacking.

Tacking Technique
1. Put mainsheet in tiller hand
2. Turn quickly while coming in on feet to knees
3. Ease main a little (or drop sheet?)
4. Pass tiller behind mainsheet/boom (or drop tiller behind boat) while going under main
5. Grab tiller with same hand (aka old rear hand)
6. Grab mainsheet with same hand (aka old front hand)
7. Move to high side while twisting body with tiller hand (aka old rear hand) behind back
8. Bring mainsheet (old front hand) and tiller (old rear hand) to hip
9. Transfer tiller and mainsheet to new tiller hand (aka new rear hand)
10. Grab trap ring with new front hand, hook in, slide hand to trap handle and push forward to keep tension on trap ring/hook, lean back on and trap out…while still holding tiller and mainsheet in new rear hand
11. Bend knees and grab mainsheet from tiller hand with new mainsheet hand near hull/feet
12. Let go of sheet from tiller hand, straighten legs while sheeting in with new mainsheet hand
13. Layout flat, adjust trim…and go fast on new tack

Again this is a foiler but the guy is a US Olympic Team sailor, multiple A Cat NAs Champ, etc. so getting an onboard view of his technique is like looking inside of his brain.

This videographer’s work is great and the drone footage again provides lots of opps to see technique in action. I was particularly fascinated by the father and son downwind trapping of AUS 308 Andrew Landenberger and AUS 300 Andy Landenberger. Be on the lookout for WRSC’s very own USA 79 Pat Stadt too.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for sending these videos. I remember the discussion about tacking.
That was the same day that Steve erupted when Leith walked into the bar. Steve made quite a fuss about Leith's hair. He kept saying, "Leith! Your hair is perfect!" Again and again, he kept saying it. Ya gotta understand Steve is normally a quiet guy. This was uncharacteristic for him. The way Steve was carrying on, everyone in the bar looked up to admire Leith. And Steve was right. Leith's hair was perfect. He looked like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. He even had the John Travolta strut. That was Leith's moment. He ruled the room. He owned it.
As long as we are talking about hair.
Andy used to be pretty well groomed. But he has let his standards slip in recent months.
Paul is sporting a very impressive self inflected haircut. We all could learn from his example.
Gordon needs intervention.
