Difficult night. Very light wind. A little breeze was found here or there. Spent most of the time ghosting along.
Tihansky took off like a jack rabbit. We saw him round the first shoal pin way ahead of the rest of the fleet. Then he was gone. Next time we saw him was at the beach. He had his boat put away. He showered, changed cloths, combed his hair and was ready to hit the restaurant when we were finishing.
As luck would have it, Eric and I had a good start. We were able to get a little bit of a lead. It was one of those quiet moments when sound really carries on the water. Eric shouted, "We are ahead of you!" I quickly scolded him explaining how unsportsmanlike conduct is not tolerated here.
We relied on luck to keep the boat moving for the rest of the evening. Luck and our good looks.

Atomic bumblebee 1:41:04.
Can we add another entry for “Atomic Bumblebee”? We sailed it two up with SCHRS rating of Nacra F17 sloop 1.058.
Thomas Birchfield was the skipper.  From now on I will be skippering “Atomic Bumblebee” solo,
And Tommy in two-up configuration.
Thanks!
Vlad.

233 finished in 1:39:45

Two races in a row without a capsize.  This is hurting my average!

Sky 1:54:01 SCHRS 1.017 (Blade 16 solo)

I was the last to finish declining offers to be towed by sympathetic observers as I floated on a river of glass.

Best Regards,
Leith

Falcon: DNF

I didn't have the patience or courage to take the second lap and float home in the dark!

Off the Grid 1:04:20.

Started away from the crowd, got to the first puff, greedily consumed all of its energy and used it to catapult myself to the breeze outside.

Apologies for my greed..  Pretty rude of me considering you held up the start on my behalf..

In the Weeds vs Orr competition the Weeds finished with 6, Orr 0.

Long rubbers with 10" winglets did not work in my favor.

On my initial launch I tacked toward the dock with the plan  to tack away as I closed in.   I stopped mid tack.  I mean, it stopped dead and then drifted back toward the dock.  My rudders had gathered  pounds of weeds.  I turned the boat around, returned to the beach, and cleared the weeds from the rudders.  Weeds 1, Orr 0

On my second attempt, I walked the boat to the far side of the ramp, heading out on a tack that I was sure would clear the dock and the bed of weeds.  Second fail.  Same thing happened. Weeds 2, Orr 0

On the third attempt I figured I would outsmart those weeds and go out on a port tack. Turns out the weeds are smarter than me. Snagged again. But this time I cleared the weeds and fought my way to the morning balls, clearing the weeds again.  Although I finally got off the beach the judges awarded the point to the weeds.   Weeds 3, Orr 0.

Off to the start line.  I cut the corner and went between the Red and the marina. This time the weeds should have been given 2 points. In addition to my rudders collecting weeds both boards were down and fouled with weeds.   Weed 4, Orr 0

I had what should have been a good start, but the weeds found me again as I was taking off.  I slowed down and now a train of large, big-sailed catamarans on my windward side was slowly passing me. I am blanketed by bad air and going nowhere.    Weeds 5, Orr 0

That was it for me. The weeds completely bested me.  But they weren't done. On the way back to the beach I had to clear my rudders several times and spend extra time hosing the weeds off my boat.  Weeds 6, Orr 0

If there was any good to come out of the evening, it was that I cut a lot of weeds.  A strong outgoing tide it may clear a path for me next week.

I got home, showered, ate dinner, and worked on a spreadsheet project for the upcoming Worlds while watching the exciting conclusion of the race from my deck.

A Gentleman’s Agreement with guest Rob Lancaster: 1:17:07. We were serving penance for shortening the course the week prior.
