Predictable Urge had a time keeping malfunction. I finished. I was dead last by a large margin.
I had trouble dousing the spinnaker at Rhode River.
The first time it took a while to get the spin in the sock. I think Geiger stood by while I was blown past RR2 and up into the Rhode River.
The second time the spin got kinda stuck with some of it hanging out of the hoop and some of it shrimping under the boat. It was ugly. I got the boat pointing somewhat upwind and tried to figure out what to do. I wound up crawling forward on the starboard bow and stuffed the spin in the hoop by hand. At times like these it would have been nice to have a teammate at the helm. By the time I got situated, I was very close to the rocks at WABANA. Very close. Like 20 feet. I was beginning to wonder if Sam would have time to do some serious boat repair. I rushed to the helm and quickly jibbed away. Luck was on my side and I managed to leave the rocks unscathed. I think Eagley stood by and hailed on the radio to see if I was ok.
It is not so important how well you place in the standings just as long as you have a good excuse.

Atomic Bumblebee had a similar problem with a new spinnaker and sock. Which provided additional excitement to already great sailing.
I had lots of fun sailing with you guys first time. I kept my time however. I finished at 19:31:28.
My rating Nacra f17 solo is 1.090.

I'm just glad you left the rocks unscathed, who would have fixed those???

Vladimir,

I am sorry, I believe I was ambiguous when I told you to keep your time.  I meant elapsed time (stopwatch time) not time of day.  We don't record the time of start.

There is a small chance someone was running a GPS tracking app who could determine that time for you and let us know.

Can you tell us who finished after you? That will likely let the score keeper determine your placing.  In cases like this you usually get the time of the boat behind you.

If John Baker was the only one behind you, you will be scored second to last because he unfortunately also didn't get his elapsed time.

Sorry again for not explaining that to you very well.

I John, I apologize for misunderstanding. I finished second to last, about a minute after A-cat. I don’t care about results and standings, just wasn’t sure how particular you are about records keeping.
I had a tracking app on my watch running, and it seems like I finished at 46:58, however I wasn’t precise with starting and ending the tracking.
Anyway. I will do better next time :)
Vladimir.

Oops, never mind, it can’t be 46 min. I will keep time next time around.

The Expletive: 15:51.

What John B said about "I think Geiger stood by while I was blown past RR2" was not accurate.  We were actually mimicking him complete with jibing a couple of times to try to unfoul the spinnaker.  We didn't bother to follow him towards the rocks however.

The other biggest excitement we had was fouling Constantine.  My attempt to duck him was exceedingly hard for him to read, and he let me know it in both words and actions.  He did an early tack away.  I did my 360.

I am glad the miscommunication didn't bother you and that you had a good time.

I look forward to racing with you in the following weeks.

I believe the start was at 18:09:46, based on the GPS time from my Vakaros and the charted sails analysis:

Chris,

You are correct.  My race watch doesn't show the hours, so that's why I forgot to show the hour.  I see that Keith used the right time for me.  Thanks.
