Clearly it’s the same reason we call Gieger, “Geiger.” At one point there were too many Johns to keep straight so we went with last names. Jahn sometimes gets caught up in this when referred to as “Tihansky” but with other readily available nicknames - “JT” or “Coach” or even “Coach T” - it’s hard to get him too mixed up with the others.
We had a similar problem with Chrises at one point but the current ones outlasted the others so we’re left with Bergerson and Chris Allen (who you might think would be “Allen” based on the previous algorithm but then we’d all be wondering who this “Alan” guy was).
To wrap this up, there might be a lot of Johns and a lot of Chrises but there’s only one “Baker” so I ask you - would you really want it any other way?
