This is a notice of exciting employment opportunity for a Fuel Tax and Registration Auditor vacancy (schedule/range 07-04) located at the Department of Transportation, the headquarters for this position will be headquartered at the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison, WI.
This position is responsible for conducting in-office and field audits of motor carrier records to ensure payment of fuel tax and registration fees due as well as ensure compliance with fuel tax and registration laws and regulations under Wisconsin law, the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and the International Registration Plan (IRP). These audits determine correct fuel tax and registration revenue due Wisconsin and other jurisdictions and assure that Wisconsin and other jurisdictions are receiving the proper share of revenue.
Revenues generated for the Transportation Fund from IRP registration fees exceeds $60 million annually. Revenues generated for the Transportation Fund from fuel tax collection are estimated to be in excess of $18 million annually.
Salary Info.
This position is in schedule-range (07-04) with an annual salary of $52,666-$66,955 ($25.32/hr - $32.19/hr), plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.
