This is a notice of exciting employment opportunity for a Bureau of Field Services Deputy Director vacancy (schedule/range 81-01) located at the Department of Transportation. This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison, WI at least 3 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from with the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.
The Deputy Director affects the ability of specific bureau programs to function efficiently and effectively in carrying out federal and state laws/policies, department and division policies, and administrative rules. Specifically, this position affects program operations which perform the following annual functions: the issuance of nearly 1.3 million driver license or identification card products; offering more than 100,000 skills tests to new drivers; administering 285,000 knowledge tests; renewing 208,000 vehicle registrations; issuing more than 793,000 vehicle titles; answering nearly 175,000 customer phone calls, responding to almost 32,000 customer emails; and collecting over $200 million in revenue for the transportation fund. These services are carried out through 5 administrative regions and in 90 municipalities throughout the state.

This position also assists in the development and expenditure of the bureau’s $27 million annual operating budget and the management of more than 400 staff resources. This position directly supervises the BFS Technical and Training Section Chief and 4 professional level policy analysts and IT staff positions within Bureau of Field Services.
Salary Info.
This position is in schedule-range (81-01) with an annual salary of $112,320-$120,910, plus excellent benefits. A 2 year career executive trial period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.
