You can think of the disturbance moving out of Texas and through the Deep South as something of an interruption. Without this small impulse, temperatures would warm quickly, sunshine would be abundant, and the surface flow likely to be increasing and southerly. There will be some heavy rain and stronger thunderstorms, but most impacts will be erased after Monday. It is possible some snow and sleet could occur early in the period over the TX Panhandle and southern Oklahoma. But the broad and impressive spread of warming will expand over the southern half of the USA, with cases of 90 deg F and higher in the Texas Big Country on Tuesday afternoon.

Bitter cold air remains in Canada for the bulk of the near term, with disturbances moving along or just south of the International Border, That is a cAk vortex setting up over Hudson Bay, which in effect will prevent any moderation in the U.S. from moving above Interstate 80. The massive snowpack over the American West can only reach the Front Range and Black Hills by the end of this time frame. Warmth from Mexico will control Texas, The Heartland and the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys
