Hi everyone - The summer water system (with many hose bibs) will be turned on by tomorrow at 9am. We are expecting warm weather for at least a week so you can trust that the summer system will be up and running for that long. If we experience another period of weather where the temps drop into the twenties we will shut off the water and then turn it back on again when the weather warms above 30 degrees. We will no longer be using the "winter hose bib."
We have two water systems at the garden. The first one was installed by a crew before we opened and we later discovered that the pvc that was used for the system had been damaged during manufacturing which resulted in lots of hairline cracks. These cracks only became apparent as the weather changed. We installed a second system, the summer system, for back up against the first system, and we hired Rick Tracy to install it. That system does not have any problems. Unfortunately, we made the decision to put the winter hose bib on the first system, because we thought we had resolved all of the places that might have a future leak. We were wrong and the winter system now has many leaks that would be too costly to fix. So, we will use the summer system.
I wanted to explain because I know it can be frustrating to not understand why there are problems. Also, I didn't want Rick to take any of the blame for the leaks in the system, as he did not have anything to do with the install of the leaking system.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
