Also today I had our amazing studio staff team in to start cleaning and organizing the shared space a bit. We consolidated shelving, cleaned up the resident & studio manager space and did a deep clean and organization of the hand building side of the house. I wanted to get the wedging board lumps straightened out but had to put that off until Wednesday. I am really grateful to our studio staff and if you haven't met them they are (L-R),
Studio Assistant - Emily Bishop, Resident Artist - Andy Cain and Resident Trainee - Tateum Dunn - we also received help from several studio members so - Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Second bit of good news!!!! WE ARE EXTENDING OPEN STUDIO HOURS! - Andy Cain our current Resident is a Sculpture Tech and Adjunct Professor at Alfred where he is employed and holds both a B.F.A. and M.F.A.. Due to the high demand from Alfred Andy is only able to be at the studio on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Andy has offered to hold open studio time for students on: Monday & Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. Andy is excited about the opportunity to meet more of our students and we are thankful that he is able to keep the studio open a bit longer for our members. Andy will leave his number on the cafe door for studio access.
Third bit of good news! We have brought on an eager Resident in Training Tateum Dunn! Tateum is ready to expand his ceramic knowledge and will be contributing weekly around the studio with studio chores! In exchange we can all contribute to helping Tateum expand his knowledge of clay!
Final bit of great news - we will soon welcome to our team Casey O'Connor. I'm really excited to have Casey as part of our team here at the Center! Casey walked into the center a few weeks ago and I instantly knew he would be a great fit. Most recently Casey has been the Head of the Ceramics Department at Fallbrook School of the Arts in CA. Please check out his instructor bio here :
Casey O'Connor Bio. Casey had so many rave reviews from Fallbrook and I'm excited to see his future contributions here at the Center!

I also have a couple studio updates: As the Fall session begins I will take a look at shelving space ( please don't panic ). I want to make sure that students who are accessing our space have paid for their session memberships. I understand that sometimes students will take a session off ( again don't panic ) if you need to take a session off please just let me know prior. If I don't hear from you I will send out an email just making sure you will be coming back to the studio. If you have a lapse of two sessions I may ask you to consolidate or move.
Very last note on this email. Over the next two weeks I will be away from the studio as I prepare for the last wood firing of the "Bee" kiln. I plan to stop by for new student classes on Wednesday (9/4) and again directly before the firing on Thursday (9/12). Emily Bishop, our Studio Assistant will be holding down the studio and directing the studio crew in my absence - if there are any minor issues please bring them to her attention. If there is an emergency please reach out to me directly (814) 203-2571. I do not check this email from home so I won't be responsive to emails but will have my phone for direct contact.
That is it from the clay studio side of the house this week. Thank you all for a great summer session and I hope to see you all around the studio this Fall!
Yours in Clay - Bill
