Hey Clay Friends,

Here is where we stand a quick review and update. Kilns are turning over just as fast as we can load them.  Casey O'Connor - our awesome resident is really doing great so if you see him around the studio - tip your hat.  We are almost done with the Fall Session and I am looking forward to the Holiday Session.  I plan on having the website updated with some exciting classes for that next week. Here are a few projects I am working on in the next few weeks and a few studio notes:
  • Holiday Session Classes - Mark C. is taking the session off and will be handing his class off to Casey
    • Casey has some really exciting ideas he will be bringing to the class while upholding Mark's standard for Sculpture students
  • Light fixtures are being fixed as needed - the LED's that are being installed take the place of 2 fluorescents - if they are too bright just rotate them gently in the fixture
  • I am confirming the clay order for next week - I am looking for a couple volunteers to help unload and will get an exact date out when I know
  • Emily Bishop will no longer be with us as a studio assistant - we are thankful for her time and help in the studio and wish her the best of luck in the future
  • Finally I am hoping to host a workshop(s) this winter I will be reaching out to artists to see if we can get some one day workshops going
Lastly, a quick insight onto my management style.  This studio is a community studio - I consider myself a caretaker or shepherd most certainly not a dictator.  My job  and main concerns are students' health, safety, happiness and flow.  For instance - I know we like to crack the glaze kilns when the kiln is under 200 - sometimes it's difficult because the middle and left kiln run off the same breaker and we can't always check temp.  No problem at all, just use common sense and good judgement and when in doubt ask.  As long as everyone is being safe and the studio is happy - then I'm happy.  My job is not to disrupt rather maintain flow and zen.

If there are any issues that arise just reach out to me.  I am going to make myself more available on a concrete schedule.  I will be at the studio the following days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30-12:30 ish and Tuesdays from 4:30-8:30ish.  I will also be available as needed Friday-Saturday for special events: workshops, openings, clay orders etc. If there is an emergency or our schedules don't line up, leave me a note or shoot me an email and I will do my best to take care of what is needed in a timely manner.

Take care all and enjoy the apples!
