December 13 2021 City Council Meeting update

WARD is urging residents to send emails and/or make comments about the latest Lifestyle Communities (LC) proposal for rezoning the former United Methodist Children’s Home (UMCH) site that will be presented to Worthington City Council on December 13, 2021. 

LC submitted a high-density proposal for 600 residential units, including 420 apartments in four and five story blocks.  At 2 residents per unit this would increase Worthington's total population by 8.5% on just 25 acres!  The plan also calls for 1362 parking spaces (generating more traffic), and precious little green space. The Municipal Planning Commission/Architectural Review Board recommended rejection of Lifestyle’s proposal at its October 14, 2021 meeting and the city’s process allows the applicant, Lifestyle Communities, to present their proposal to city council.

WARD’s position has not changed on the Lifestyle Communities proposal for the UMCH property and that is it is too dense and does not allow for significant usable greenspace that would benefit the Worthington community at large.
