Dear NKA Customers and W96 Tenants,

On Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 we will be hosting a fly-out to Tangier Island. The flight to Tangier is a little under 60 miles, so flight times should be under 1 hour each way in almost all aircraft. All four of our rental planes will be available for this trip. We also have instructors available if you prefer to get some dual instruction. As a portion of this trip is overwater, you may wish to consider bringing life jackets for the occupants of your plane. All are welcome and encouraged to come along, you don't need to rent one of our planes to attend.

According to Wikipedia, the city of Tangier is located on Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay. The population was 727 at the 2010 census. The majority of the original settlers were from South West England, and the tiny island community has attracted the attention of linguists because its people speak a unique English Restoration-era dialect of American English. Most of Tangier Island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

I have been to Tangier several times, and there are several good seafood restaurants within easy walking distance of the airport. Both the flight and the island are quite scenic.

We will be conducting a free briefing the morning of August 23rd beginning promptly at 9:30 AM in the terminal at W96. There is some restricted airspace around Tangier, so we will give you suggestions for dealing with this during the briefing. Of course, you will still be responsible for your own flight planning. We will plan to begin preflighting around 10 AM and then be on our way to Tangier.

Scheduling is on a first come, first served basis for this trip. I have reserved all four planes for this fly-out. Any planes not reserved by the close of business on Monday, August 11th will be released for regular scheduling. You will have to call or e-mail us to schedule as I have reserved all four planes - you won't be able to do this on your own.

We look forward to seeing you on the 23rd!
