Welcome to Summer! (well almost)
I hope you all are as excited about the upcoming months as I am! We have an election, candidate opportunities, and volunteers opportunities ready for you as we head into the summer and fall!
First order of business on your way to the June Meeting on Tuesday the 19th stop by Meridian Pint for a Ward 1 Meet and Greet with Mary Brooks Beatty and Pat Mara! Join them at 6pm and enjoy some good food, a frosty beverage, and have the chance to meet our candidate for the At-Large city council seat in November.
Next stop, head over to St. Stephen & the Incarnation at 16th and Newton for our June Meeting. With the general election fast approaching I wanted to take advantage of the resources we have right here in Ward 1 to learn a little bit about the ANC commissioner position and election process. Next Tuesday we will welcome former Ward 1 Chairman and ANC Commissioner Phil Lepanto to talk about his experience running for the ANC in Mount Pleasant, what to expect once you've been elected, and how to to be a good commissioner. This fall we will have two Ward 1 Republicans running for an ANC seat (maybe more?!?), chat with one or both about their goals if elected; they can certainly use your support and $$ as well. I'm also hoping Nick Jeffress, the DCGOP Executive Director, will be able to stop by to give us some quick insight on the non-partisan position of an ANC commissioner and how the DCGOP can still help! Many local politicians started right at home in their own ANC; this is your shot at your first publicly elected position!
