Vigorous Hikers - 12/9/2025 hike: Manassas Gap to Chester Gap, out and back

Good morning!

The hike on December 9 starts near Linden Va and takes the Appalachian Trail south for approximately 8 miles to Chester Gap (Route 522) and then returns to our starting point.  The total distance is approximately 15.5 miles with a total climb of approximately 3,000 feet.  Map is attached.

The weather currently looks good, but cold, for December 9th.  Because this is an out-and-back hike along the AT, hikers can turn around before Chester Gap if they prefer.

We will leave from Appalachian Trail parking (38.91134, -78.05288) at 8 am.  The parking lot is a short exit from HW 66.

Car poolers can meet at the park-and-ride, 14700 Lee Highway, Centreville, VA 20120 and plan to depart for the trailhead at 7 a.m.
