****************NOTICE OF HIKE CHANGE************

The original hike planned for Tuesday, January 20 has been changed

 

Thanks to Ed Cook who notified me that Skyline drive is closed past the Dicky Ridge VC making the Elkwallow Wayside inaccessible

The new hike information is located below:

Hemlock Overlook Regional Park to Wolf Run Shoals Road and back (with variations)

Time: 8:30 AM

Place: Bull Run-Occoquan Trail Yates Ford Road Trailhead/ 38° 45' 58.86" N, 77° 24' 24.76" W

Distance: approximately 17 miles

Elevation gain/loss: 2,400 ft

Description:  

• From the parking lot hike north through the park towards the day camp 
• When the paved road ends, follow a well worn path/trail to the Bull Run Occoquan Trail (BROT) at Pope's Head Creek.
• Take BROT south following the blue blazes to Wolf Run Shoals Road 
• Return along the same route until reaching the canoe racks
• Turn right and take the red blazed hiking trail up the hill to the yellow blazed trail 
• Turn right and continue uphill back to the parking lot.

 

NOTE:

• A map will NOT be provided 
• When approaching Yates Ford Road we will go down by the boat launch and under the bridge rather than crossing Yates Ford for safety reasons.
• There will be no carpool for this hike
