Tuesday September 3 Hike - Whiteoak Canyon

Looks like we are finally going to have a cooler day for a hike this Tuesday. With the last couple rains the falls in whiteoak canyon should be nice.

Whiteoak Canyon and Hawksbill Mountain. (PATC Map 10) We will start at the Whiteoak Canyon Parking lot off Rte 600 (38.539463, -78.349023) and take the Whiteoak Canyon Trail to the AT at the horse stables. Will head south on the AT to the Salamander trail and  to the top of Hawksbill. We go down the Hawksbill Trail and Cedar Run Trail back to the parking lot.(16 miles with 3,500 feet of elevation gain, see Map). 

   Those wishing a little shorter hike may go right on the Limberlost Trail when Whiteoak Trail crosses it. And then left on the Crescent Rock trail to the AT (see orange line on map).

Hikers who wish to carpool should meet no later than 7AM at the Centerville Park and Ride off I66, exit 52, Centerville.  Go West on Rt 29 taking the 2nd right into the parking lot area, then immediately turn left to the corner of the lot where our group gathers.  (See: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/riders/stone-road ) 

        Please let me know if you will be meeting us at the Centerville parking lot at 7:00 or at the Whiteoak parking area at 8:30a
